Roy Douglas "Mac" McDonald, age 86, died Friday, August 4, 2017 at his home in Marietta, Georgia. He was born in Frankfort, Kentucky on August 25, 1930, the son of the late Archie and Hallie (McCarty) McDonald of Midway, Kentucky.
Following his high school graduation, Douglas proudly served our country in the United States Navy. During his service he had the opportunity to be a part of research teams in the North Pole. Once he completed his time in the military, he attended the University of Kentucky where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Husbandry.
Douglas retired as a Main Station Supervisor for the Meat Grading Division of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in Atlanta, Georgia. Post retirement from the USDA, Douglas, accompanied by his wife Carleen, did training and consulting in the Meat Industry in Australia for three years and had several extended stays in Poland.
Though he loved his work, faith and family were the most important things to Douglas. He was a charter member and Deacon at Ox Hill Baptist Church in Chantilly, Virginia. Douglas and his beautiful wife were married for 63 wonderful years and shared countless memories with their children and grandchildren. Douglas was a wonderful Christian, father, grandfather, and friend; he will certainly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Douglas is survived by his devoted wife, Ruby Carleen McDonald; five children, Martina Gilly, Linda Lindberg, Marianne McDonald, Michael Mc Donald and Stacy Soloway; sons and daughter- in-law, David Gilly, Paul Lindberg, Scott Soloway, and Rachel McDonald; six grandchildren, Zachary Lindberg, Eric Lindberg, Jennifer Soloway, Adam Soloway, Austin Gilly, and Sean McDonald.
A funeral service to honor the life of Douglas McDonald will be held at one o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday, August 10, 2017 in the Chapel of Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Bettina Kilburn officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery.
A visitation with the family will take place from six o'clock in the evening until eight on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Zachary Lindberg, Eric Lindberg, Adam Soloway, Austin Gilly, Sean McDonald, and Mike McDonald.
In lieu of flowers (due to allergies) the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
