Raymond "Jimmie" Russell, 85, passed away, Wednesday, September 20, 2017.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 1331 Gay Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Friends and family may call from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Friday at the Fairhaven Mennonite Church, 5401 Winter Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Raymond "Jimmie" Russell was born March 5, 1932 in Marion, Alabama, to James and Lizzie Russell. He moved to Fort Wayne at the age of ten years and was a graduate of Central High School. Jimmie was employed by International Harvester. He was drafted into the army in 1952, and fought with the 56th Armor Division during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954 as a Corporal. On February 19, 1953, he married Leola Jinks, who preceded him in death. He was a committed member of Fairhaven Mennonite Church and was caretaker of the church grounds for many years. Jimmie was a delegate to the General Assembly for the Mennonite Church of America and Canada for six years. He served on the Executive Board of the Indiana Michigan Conference for six years. On September 17, 2007, Jimmie married Annette Brooks. Jimmie enjoyed fishing, gardening, spending time with his children, grandchildren, family and friends. Everyone who knew Jimmie was aware of how he felt about his grass and his flowers. He was an avid gardener.

Survivors include his wife Annette; his son, Brian (Keshia) Russell of Indianapolis, Kalfis (Karine) Brooks of Fort Wayne; daughters, Jeanine (Art) Jordan of Indianapolis, Jennifer (Michael) Hayes of Fort Wayne, Jackie Brooks of Fort Wayne, Wanda Brooks of Fort Wayne; daughter-in-law, Ethel Russell of Texas. Jimmie is also survived by 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his sons, Raymond Eric Russell and Ralph Brooks.
