BRADY, Reneilde Elizabeth “Renee”, age 86, of Tampa, FL passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2016. She was born in Great Neck, NY on March 6, 1930, the daughter of Frederick and Albertine Brower. Prior to her marriage, Renee began her working career as a switchboard operator. Soon after her divorce and with the help of her lifelong friend, Jim Lucente, she got a job at Bohacks Supermarket in Locust Valley, NY. She then went on to a 20-year career with the US Post Office, both in New York and Florida. After retiring from the Post Office, Renee worked in the credit collections department at Bank of America. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting and sewing. Renee would create crocheted mementos for her grandchildren to honor special occasions and she spent hours teaching her granddaughters, Cindy, Tracey and Danielle how to sew. She was a collector of stamps, plates and coins. Renee would combine her love of history and travel by visiting historical locations throughout the Country, such as the Alamo and the Missions in Texas. For entertainment, she enjoyed reading, most notably the Ellory Queen Mysteries and contemporary mysteries such as the Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich. In the 1960’s Renee babysat for a publisher that gave her free, pre-published books such as Way Station by Clifford D. Simek and The Word by Irving Wallace. As a single-mom, she did the best she could to raise four kids with limited resources. Thankfully she had a family and friends that supported her through difficult times. Renee was very proud of her family and the fact that all of her children married well; and spending time with her grandchildren was one of her greatest pleasures. Reneilde was raised Catholic and kept her faith with her always. She had a relationship spanning more than 20 years with Donald Portfolio, whom she met while working at the Post Office. They were together until Don’s death in August 2002.She was preceded in death by her parents, and her daughter, Beverly Toto. Survivors include her sons, John (Susan) Brady, Walter (Erma) Brady and Tom (Kathy) Brady; son-in-law, Nick Toto; brother, Frederick (Judy) Brower; grandchildren, Christine McNally, Cindy (Steve) Petrie, Tom (Laura) Toto, Elizabeth (Sam) Parker, Dena Askew, Bobby (Angie) Hewitson, Tracey Brady, and Danielle Brady; and great-grandchildren, Isabella and Stephen Petrie and Maddalena Toto.
