1943 – 2017
Rev. Phillip "Phil" Everett Chapman age 74 of Plattsmouth, NE peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, NE.
He was born on July 15, 1943 to Everett Dean and Shirley Althea (Olson) Chapman in Franklinville, NY. Phil was raised and schooled in Franklinville and he graduated from Franklinville High School with the class of 1961. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He met Dianna Louise Rogerson and they later married on July 12, 1963 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Eastmont, WA. Phil served his country during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War for twenty years. While in the Air Force, Phil and Dianna made their home and raised their family in Painfield, WA, Turkey for three years, and later in Plattsmouth, NE.
After Phil retired from the Air Force, he began working at Bellevue University. While working for the university, he attended classes and he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Sociology and in 2006 his Master's Degree in Business. In 2002, Phil became an Episcopal Deacon and later in 2005 an Episcopal Priest.
He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and Lepert Wolever V.F.W. Post #2543 both of Plattsmouth.
Phil is survived by his wife: Dianna Chapman of Plattsmouth, NE; son: Paul Chapman of Plattsmouth, NE; four grandchildren: Ashley Rydl and husband David, Meagan Serafino and husband Danny, Phillip Byrom, and Cory Chapman; three great grandchildren: Leighton Serafino, Quintin Serafino, and Payton Byrom; brother: Herbert Chapman and wife Mary of Hamburg, NY; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Everett and Shirley Chapman and daughter: Renee Byrom.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Omaha with The Right Reverend J. Scott Barker officiating, Roger Byer and Maurie Thorstadt as readers, David Schack as organist, and military rites by the Offutt Air Force Base Military Rites Team.
