Richard was born August 29, 1947 in Boston, Massachusetts, and passed away June 26, 2017 in Dallas, Texas.

Richard served with the Massachusetts National Guard from 1968 to 1975. After graduating from Suffolk University in Boston with a BA in Psychology and a MA in Education, Richard embarked on his career as a teacher, sharing his love of learning with generations of students. He taught science at St. Mark's School of Texas from 1986 to 1998 before moving to The Hockaday School, where he was a Lead Science Chair from 1998 until his retirement in 2013. He was an avid reader, and became a talented wood carver as a member of the North Texas Woodcarver's Guild.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Armando and Pasqualena (Lena) Abbondanzio. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Lucianne (Marini) Abbondanzio; son, David Abbondanzio; son, Matthew Abbondanzio and wife Jessica (Smith); as well as many extended family members and friends.

A Memorial Service celebrating Richard's life will be held Friday, June 30, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Walnut Hill United Methodist Church, 10066 Marsh Ln, Dallas, TX 75229.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Richard's name are requested to be made to St. Mark's School of Texas, 10600 Preston Rd, Dallas, TX 75230 or to The Hockaday School, 11600 Welch Rd, Dallas, TX 75229.
