June 29, 1939---January 6, 2018 Richard “Dick” James, 78, of Albany died Saturday at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. Born in Willamina, Oregon to Hughie David and Eva Opal (Wade) James, Dick moved to Albany and attended Central Grade School and graduated from Albany Union High School, where he played basketball and baseball, establishing a state record for stolen bases. Dick graduated from Seattle Pacific University in 1962, earning a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He played varsity baseball all four years as a center fielder. After college Dick joined the Oregon National Guard in Albany for 10 years. He married Donna Kay Sams in Portland and worked with First Interstate Bank of Oregon (Wells Fargo), retiring in 1994. Dick is survived by his wife of 54 years Donna; sons Aaron (Becky) and Justin (Kelly); grandchildren Joshua, and Hannah Cole (Travis); and brother Robert (Eloise). He was preceded in death by his parents. Dick is remembered for his strong faith in God. A memorial service will be at 10am Thursday January 11th at Hope Church (First Assembly of God).
