Dobson, Richard "Dick" D. ,retired construction engineer passed away April 24, 2017 at the age of 87. Born in Wichita, KS on November 7, 1929. He is preceded in death by parents Harry and Cecil Dobson, sister Virginia Speer, brother Fred Dobson and wife Meredith "Ricky" Dobson .

He is survived by his children, R. David Dobson II. (Brenda) Bowen of Island BC, Cynthia(Harry) Tucker of Dayton, OH, Mitchell (Sharon) Dobson of Tucson, AZ, Step Daughter Kim (Jim) Swisher of Rose Hill, Niece Jennifer (George) Coleman of Wichita and families.

A graduate from Kansas State University, Dick began his career with Dobson Roofing and progressed to Construction Engineering and Arbitration. This led to many job sites around the world including Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Borneo, Las Vegas NV (Airport redesign) and Wichita KS (Intrust Arena). He loved telling stories of his world travels and was always willing to give construction advice. Dick took pride in his years of Construction experience and knowledge. After retirement he wrote a Construction publication and marketed it to Construction companies and Architectural firms. Dick had a passion for gardening. After the loss of his wife Ricky, he became a fixture at the Sedgwick County Extension Service, becoming a Master Gardener, Master Composter and Master Tree Gardener. He gave many hours of his time to volunteering on projects and presentations. It was hard to end a conversation with him because he enjoyed sharing what he knew and was always willing to help. He was an avid animal lover, adopting numerous dogs throughout his life and treating them as family. They were constant companions who took trips with him in the car daily. Dick was a happy man that enjoyed life. He loved to talk and was never without a story or adventure to share, easily making a friend of whomever he met across the globe.

Memorial Reception with family present is to take place on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 6pm-8pm at Hillside Funeral Home West, 2929 W. 13th , Wichita.

A private inurnment will be held at Highland Cemetery in Wichita.

Memorials may be given in memory of Dick to Kansas Humane Society or Good Shepherd Hospice.
