Richard F. Lassonde Jr., 87, of Concord died on Wednesday November 15th at the Hospice House in Concord NH. He was born in Concord, the son of the late Beatrice E. Lamotte and Richard F. Lassonde. He grew up in Concord and graduated from Concord High School in the class of 1948. He was well known as a track athlete in the late 1940's having won individual state championships in the running broad jump in 1946, 1947, and 1948 and also the 100-yard dash in 1947. He was a Korean War veteran, having served four years in the US Navy as an Aviation Machinists mate. He was a 63-year and lifetime member of the American Legion Post #31 in Penacook, a 56-year and lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1631 in Concord. He became a lifetime member of the Concord Elks Lodge #1210 in 1995 after a membership of 32 years. He was a charter member of the Msgr. Laughlin Council Knights of Columbus #5288 in Penacook chartered in 1962 where he was a lifetime member. He became a 4th degree Knight of Columbus in the Msgr. Buckley Assembly of Concord in 1963. He later transferred and became a charter member of the Hector Lamontagne Assembly 4th Degree #2403 in Penacook chartered in 1994 where he was also a lifetime member.. He was a registered professional engineer in the State of NH and where he retired in 1991 after 35 years of service with the NH Department of Transportation, the last 25 years of which he served as the Department's Bituminous Engineer. He enjoyed his family, gardening and professional sports, especially the Boston Red Sox and the NE Patriots. He was a communicant of Saint Peter's Parish in Concord. He is survived by his wife, Christine (Fanaras) of Concord, a daughter Dyana M. Martin and her husband Gary Martin of Hampton Falls, NH., a son Richard F. Lassonde III of Greenland, NH., a brother Donald C. Lassonde and his wife Barbara Lassonde of Warner, and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his bother Sheldon Lassonde. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4pm on Sunday, November 19 at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 North Main Street, Concord. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Monday, November 20 at Christ the King Parish, 72 South Main Street, Concord. Burial will follow at the Blossom Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the Bennett Funeral Home of Concord.
