Richard J. "Dick" Fiechtner, of Mesa, AZ passed away January 10, 2018 at the age of 91. He was born in Lehr, ND, September 14, 1926 to Jacob J. and Ida Fiechtner. After graduating from high school, Dick was drafted into the US Army where he served in the 102nd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion in the Philippines and with the judge advocate of war crimes in Germany. After discharge from the service, he spent several years farming in partnership with his brother, Russell. In 1950, he decided to go to college and enrolled at Jamestown College in Jamestown, ND. After graduating in 1953, he taught at Wishek High School, ND for one year. After that year, he went to work for Standard Oil Co. at the Mandan, ND refinery. He worked there until March 1968 at which time he was transferred to the Salt Lake City refinery as the Accounting Supervisor. In 1970, he was transferred to El Dorado, AR as the Office Manager. Upon closing the refinery, he was transferred back to the Salt Lake City refinery in 1972 as Superintendent of Administration, which he held until July 1975 when he was transferred to Wood River, IL as the Accounting Manager and in 1979, was transferred to the Texas City refinery in Texas City, TX as Administrative Manager, a position he held until his retirement on April 1, 1987. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Ida and his infant son Gaylen James Fiechtner. Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Vivian Fiechtner, married March 31, 1948; son, S. James (Cynthia) Fiechtner and Rick Lynn (Sherri) Fiechtner; grandchildren, Michael, David, Elizabeth and Lindsay Fiechtner; his sister, Della Mae Kuhn and brother, Russell Fiechtner.
