Richard John "Skip" Redner, 85, passed away on May 19, 2017 after a brief illness. His life will be celebrated at 11:30 AM at Parkway Baptist Church, Tuesday, May 23, with Pastor Keven VaLue officiating, followed by interment with military honors at Westminster Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 10 to 11:30 AM.

Skip was born in Haskell, NJ to the late Richard Jacob and Lucille Tice Redner. After graduating high school in 1950, he served in the US Air Force from 1951-1955 as a Radar and Electronics Technician which prepared him for a career which spanned more than forty years in the telecommunications field. Skip joined Bell Laboratories; NJ in 1955 and due to his knowledge and expertise in his discipline soon became a well-respected and sought after authority. He was transferred and often volunteered for assignments in New Jersey and Illinois between 1955 and 1995. He formally retired as a Senior Engineer from Bell Labs in 1989 but continued to work with AT&T Service Company until 1995. His last assignment was writing portions of Management volumes for four Merrill Lynch proposals submitted by AT&T and he served as Cost Analysis Manager and Deputy Program Manager for several sub-contacts between the FAA and AT&T. During his career he obtained one co-patent and one patent (1966), designed and contributed to the development of several telecommunication and computer systems and authored numerous proposals and program manuals.

Skip was most content in the company of family and friends and traveled often to NJ to spend time with them. He always wanted to make visitors feel welcome, enjoyed catering to their needs and was truly interested in sharing conversation. He was a great listener who replied with kind words and will be remembered for his willingness to help others. His love of God and faithfulness was reflected in his generous spirit and gentle manner. Skip was a member of Parkway Baptist Church since 1992 and served as a deacon, sang in the choir, chaired the House and Grounds Committee for nine years, taught Sunday school and assisted where needed.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Rowland Redner; children, Richard Alan (Debra) Redner of Tulsa, OK and Stephanie (Steven) Thomas of Greensboro; step daughters, Donna Pickerel and Nancy Vincent of Greensboro; sister, Joan E. Cleland of FL, three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and extended family. His wife of 57 years, Ann Marie Herz Redner, preceded him in death in 2006.
