Richard Lee Monnier was born May 11, 1930 on a ranch south of Kilgore, NE to George and Goldie (Couser) Monnier. He attended school at Plum Brush near his home and graduated from Kilgore High School in 1948. In 1951, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served until he received an honorable discharge following the death of his father. He then returned to the Monnier Ranch to help his family. He married his sweetheart Alice Faubion in Cody, NE on December 28, 1952. They lived on the ranch south of Kilgore for a couple of years and then moved to Lincoln, NE. He was a mechanic at American Stores Packing Plant for 28 years. December 1959, they purchased their farm near Raymond, NE where they raised their family, farmed and raised cattle. He built their home, farm sheds, corrals, and some of the farm equipment. He resided there until his death. He loved playing music with his family which led to the creation of the family band, “The Midnite Sun,” who played many dates in the late 60s and 70s.
