Richard L. Abbrecht, Jr. “Rich” passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Monday, November 13, 2017 at the age of 69. Rich is survived by his son, Matthew Abbrecht (Lisa); daughter, Jennifer Huntley (Rob); former spouse, Ann H. Abbrecht; and brother Russell Abbrecht. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Laurie Abbrecht.



Rich grew up in New York City. As a teenager, his family moved to New Jersey where he graduated from Raritan High School in 1965. He attended Seton Hall prior to transferring to Loyola University of New Orleans, where he attained both his undergraduate degree and MBA.



Rich began his career in the investment banking industry with Lehmann Brothers in New York City. In 1973. He returned to New Orleans, the city he came to call home, to continue his career locally at Howard Weil and, subsequently, Legg Mason. In addition to his success as a securities industry professional, Rich took pride in helping and mentoring others just getting started in the business. He retired from Capital One Southcoast, Inc. as President and CEO in 2010. Rich remained professionally active by serving as an arbitrator and consultant up until the time of his death.



An avid runner, Rich, could be found exercising in Audubon Park, often stopping his routine to say hello to friends and other familiar faces. Among his many running accomplishments, he completed several marathons, including both the Boston and New York marathons in under 3 hours. He loved to travel and spend time with family, friends, cohorts from college (affectionately known as the “wolf pack”), and his golden retriever, Maggie. Rich will be greatly missed.



Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at the Ignatius Chapel at Loyola University, Bobet Hall, 6363 St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans, on Monday, November 20, 2017 at 11:00AM. A visitation will be held at the chapel beginning at 10:00AM. A private interment will be held at a later date.
