Obituary

Richard Leo Lloyd, 79, finally met Jesus on Feb. 10, 2018 while surrounded by family and friends. Affectionately known as Dick, he never had a bad day. His infectious personality and his passion for telling others about Christ defined the legacy of a man who was driven by his faith and his family. He was a devoted husband to Rebecca Susan (nee Friend) for 44 years and a cherished father to eight. Born on Aug. 12, 1938 in Boston, Dick served in the U.S. Navy before moving to Lorain County and spending most of his life in Avon Lake. Triple-bypass surgery in 1992 forced him to medically retire after working 31 years at Ford Motor Company's Lorain plant. Doctors told the family after surgery they'd be lucky to get 10 more years out of him, but God and Dick had other plans. He was a deacon at both Avon Lake Baptist Church and later Avon Baptist Church and he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, yardwork, coaching and watching Little League, reading the paper, visiting the sick and humming his own melody. Other survivors include his children Leland Lloyd, Ryan (Kim) Lloyd, Robert (Patricia) Lloyd, Daniel Lloyd, Linda (Kenneth) Szych, Rebecca (Shayne) Krol, Jason (Alessia) Lloyd; brothers James (Linda) Lloyd and Robert (Mary) Lloyd; 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Gertrude (nee Carney) Lloyd, son Richard Lloyd, sisters Loretta LeBlanc, Gertrude Barakos, Isabelle "Tish" Lloyd and brothers Edward Lloyd and Joseph "Butch" Lloyd. Friends will be received Thursday, February 15 from 4-8 p.m. and Friday 10-11:30 a.m. at Providence Church, 35295 Detroit Rd., Avon. Funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at Providence Church. Interment Resthaven Cemetery, Avon with military honors. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Avon Baptist Church, 2575 Stony Ridge Rd., Avon. After every vacation, after every long day out of the house, Dick always walked in the back door and said, "It's good to be home." He's finally home. (440) 933-3202
