Richard M. Herring Sr. , 79, went to be with the Lord after passing away at Lee Memorial Hospital on November 25, 2016.  Born April 13, 1937 in Abbyville, Alabama, Richard graduated with a Bachelor's degree in math from Auburn University. He relocated to Fort Myers in 1963, where he started his career as a math teacher at Fort Myers Junior High and then went on to be a principal for over 30 years at Fort Myers Beach Elementary and Orange River Elementary in East Fort Myers.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Sandra Herring; his children, David (Jeanette) Herring, and Stacey Herring, as well as his grandchildren, Austin and Ava Herring. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard M. Herring, Jr.

Stricken with polio at the age of 12, Richard will always be remembered for his kind, gentle soul; leading with great character and integrity; believing that you can overcome any obstacles in life with sheer determination; his deep Christian faith; always putting his family first; and his love for Alabama football.  As children, our father always told us: "Do your best. Whether you win or lose, as long as you did your best, I will never be disappointed ".
