Richard W. Matthews GILBERTVILLE- Richard W. "Dick" Matthews, 58, of 149 Riverun Road, died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at home after being stricken ill. Born on January 31, 1953 in Montague, a son of Wilder C. and Annette M. (Viens) Matthews and grew up In Greenfield, graduating from Greenfield High School in 1971. Dick was employed by the Flexcon Company in Spencer for over 22 years as a machinist assistant. He had lived in Florida for several years before returning to Massachusetts. An avid motorcyclist, Dick enjoyed riding with is fiancée, Nancy Hubbard. He enjoyed his home and yard and cared for everything meticulously. Survivors include a son, Sean Matthews and his family of Connecticut; his father, Wilder Matthews of Winchester, New Hampshire; step father, Ralph Kenniston of Greenfield; his fiancée, Nancy Hubbard, of Gilbertville; and a step son, Michael Rush and his family of Shelburne Falls. Dick was predeceased by his mother, Annette Matthews. There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on May 14th in the Warwick Center Cemetery, Orange Road (Route 78), Warwick, with Rev. Dan Dibble of the Metcalf Memorial Chapel officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the American Red Cross, 139 Main Street, Cambridge, MA 02142 Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange, MA 01364 is directing the arrangements.
