Rita Clare Pflueger Quartano, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the age of 91 years old. She was surrounded by her loving family. Rita Clare was preceded in death by her parents Robert C. Plueger Sr. and Catherine Martin Pflueger. She is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of 71 years, Dr. George M. Quartano Sr., her 4 children, Ann Quartano Calamari (Michael), Diane Quartano Dauterive (Bob), George Merlin Quartano Jr. and Brian Charles Quartano (Leslie). Family was everything to Rita Clare. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren who will miss her dearly; Dr. Warren Reuther III (Harry), Dr. Robert Reuther (Karen), Carol Carimi Acutt (Robin), David Darryl Carimi, Rachel Quartano Adair (Jay), Dr. Ross Quartano (Jamie), Dr. Adam Quartano, and Leah Quartano Bowling (Brandon). Rita Clare was also blessed with 8 great grandchildren, Hannah Reuther, Emma Reuther, Maya Acutt, Savannah Acutt, Evie Adair, Christian Adair, Wesley Adair, Bruce Quartano, and Abrahm Quartano. She also included Ethan and Max Balsamo as part of her family. Rita Clare is survived by her brother-in-law Joseph P. Quartano (Marlene) and her lifelong loving friend Gloriann Castaing and preceded in death by Albert Castaing. A special person to Rita Clare is Barbara Dela Cerda who has been a faithful caregiver and friend for many years.

In her earlier life Rita Clare was a member and officer in many New Orleans Clubs and active in her children’s schools. She enjoyed gardening and traveling with family and friends. Thirty years ago she moved to Metairie and became an active member of the community and joined the Metairie Women’s group.

The family would like to express appreciation to the caregivers for their professional and loving care given to Rita Clare, as well as to the entire family. The family thanks Grindl “Corey” Jackson, Ashante Keller, Wanda Davis, Bridget Harris, and Briyon Green. The family also expresses thanks to Egan Hospice, especially Elisa Holt, RN, Joann Masterio and Chaplain Jeff Lorner who went beyond their duties with professionalism and concern.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass celebrated by Rev. Msgr. Andrew C. Taormina at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. Visitation begins at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hazel Park-Hida Knoff School for Hearing Impaired Children or to a charity of your choice.
