Robert Alexander Thompson was born August 10, 1941 in Henderson,
Texas to Thomas Franklin Thompson and Azalea Stuart Thompson. Robert
passed from this life on November 8, 2017. He was preceded in death by
his parents and younger brother, Thomas Stuart Thompson.
When Robert and Tom were young children, the Thompsons moved to
Houston and were raised there on Pineshade Lane. Both boys followed in
their father's footsteps as railroad men. Robert attended Bethany
Nazarene College (now Southern Nazarene University) in the Oklahoma
City area from 1960-1964, before returning to Houston where he worked
as an Engineer for over 40 years with Southern Pacific and Union Pacific
Upon his retirement he moved back to Henderson and became involved
once again in the local Church of the Nazarene. Throughout his life Robert
showed his love for the Lord and the church by serving as janitor,
children's ministry, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and
helping with church work days.
He was known as a Mr. Fix-it, McGyver-like handy man. Robert collected
cars and lawnmowers, some of which actually ran. He was loyal and funny
- a kid at heart! He truly loved his time at the Lake Palestine House in the
company of family and friends, whose love and light will shine on forever in
his honor.
He loved his family and is survived by his three children: Kristal Casey and
husband, Dwayne; Shane Thompson and wife, Randa; and Angel Schwing
and husband, Adam. Robert had eight grandchildren: Maxwell Vargas,
Payten Rudd, Luke Thompson, Colby Thompson, Tyson Thompson, Levi
Schwing, Walker Schwing and Zayne Casey. He also had two nieces,
Stephanie Goldsby, Hilary Bazan and nephews, Michael Johnson and
Jeffrey Johnson, an aunt, and numerous cousins and extended family who
he dearly loved!
