Robert D. Morton, 83, a resident of Keene, NH and previous resident of Montclair NJ, New Salem MA, West Swanzey NH, and Stoddard NH, passed away peacefully at the Genesis Keene Center, on Sunday, January 8, 2017.

He was born December 11, 1933, in Chicago, IL, the son of John and Viva Kathleen "Kay"(Beattie) Morton. He was a 1951 graduate of Montclair High School. He proudly served our Nation as a member of the United States Army. On June 7, 1958 he married the love of his life: Delorma Rodgers.

He was an active member of the Early Sites Historical Society and the New England Antiquities Research Association.

He had a wealth of knowledge: some of which he learned because of his devoted passion to history, particularly of the Civil War, or any other topic which happened to interest him. He would talk to different people, read books and three newspapers a day then put together the information that fit. He enjoyed sharing what he had learned with anyone who was willing to listen. When he felt strongly about something, which was often, he would openly express his thoughts and his view. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who lovingly called him, "Grandpa Bob".

He is survived by his wife: Delorma Morton of Keene, his son: John Morton and his wife: Sally of Richmond, NH, his daughter: Allegra Miller and her husband Daniel of Marlow, NH, eight grandchildren: Kristopher, Kenneth, Hannah, Robert "Colin", Elizabeth, Clarice, Ariana, and Blake, three great-grandchildren, two nephews: Timothy and Daniel Rodgers and their families and extended family members. He is predeceased by his son: Robert Dundas Morton and his brother-in-law: Karl F. Rodgers.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life in the Summer.
