Robert D. Jefferds, Jr. Petersburg, MI (formerly Toledo, Ohio) July 22, 1933 to April 16, 2014. Robert (Bob or Jeff) Jefferds, Jr., husband of the late Phyllis (Goodman) Jefferds, and father to six children went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 16, 2014. He died of leukemia in his Petersburg, Michigan home with two of his eldest daughters by his side. He was 80. The eldest of four children, he was preceded in death by his parents Robert Jefferds, Sr. and Virginia (Pryba) Jefferds. Surviving are his six children Karen (Vic) Trigaux, Tecumseh; Cheryl Jefferds, Petersburg; Dawn Jefferds, Petersburg; Debra (Ty) Myers, Chelsea; Linda (Gary) Cook, Aurora, Colorado, and Robert (Sue) Jefferds III, Toledo. Mr. Jefferds had 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Mr. Jefferds was born and raised in NW Ohio (Swanton and Toledo) where he met the love of his life and wife of 49 years, Phyllis Goodman. With Phyllis by his side, he began his career in the soft drink business while raising a family of five girls and one boy. This led him to later start his own soft drink distribution company based in Milan which serviced much of SE Michigan. Several years later he ran his own successful construction company and invested into Toledo area commercial and residential properties. After semi-retirement, Bob and Phyllis spent many months exploring the main and back roads of the western United States.
Mr. Jefferds, a story-teller by heart, was an extremely hard-working and loving man, who was deeply dedicated to his wife, children, siblings (Nancy, James, and Joseph), his brother-in-law Daniel Hackett, grandchildren, and his many nieces and nephews. His personal work-ethic and integrity has been an example to many and will remain a legacy to all of those whose lives were touched by him. When asked recently by one of his children what he believes was God's purpose for his life, his answer, "To be there for my entire family-my aunts, uncles, and in-laws included-in whatever way they needed me."
A private family celebration of his life will be held in the upcoming weeks. Cards and letters may be sent to 5124 Milwaukee Road, Tecumseh, MI 49286. The family requests that in lieu of flowers any donations be sent to Hospice of Lenawee County, 1903 Wolf Creek Hwy, Adrian, MI 49221 or to Ballet Chelsea, P.O. Box 591, Chelsea, MI 48118 where in recent years he enjoyed seeing his youngest grandchild, Sarah, dance in various ballet performances.
