Robert E. Donovan, 88, passed away on Saturday morning, March 28, 2015, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers. Bob was born in Gloucester on August 7, 1926, son of the late Edward and Ida Donovan. Upon graduating from Gloucester High School, and a tour of duty in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany and Austria, Bob worked as fisherman aboard his boat the "Rosalie A." He then worked as a cable splicer with the New England Telephone Company, retiring in 1989. His retirement years were spent traveling throughout New England and the Canadian Maritimes, enjoying the ferry trips across the Gulf of Maine and the Bay of Fundy. He also enjoyed his daily hikes through the woods of Dogtown and around the quarries of Cape Ann and was an avid swimmer during the summer months. Bob enjoyed the time spent with his family, especially his loving granddaughters Bethany and Molly, and took great pride in his home and gardens. His is survived by his loving of 59 years, Eleanor Donovan of Rockport; his son Robert Donovan and his wife LeeAnn; granddaughters Bethany and Molly, all of Danvers; his sister Elizabeth; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Ruth Sullivan and his brother William Donovan. Visiting hours for family and close friends will be held on Tuesday, March 31, from 3 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
