Robert E. Anderson, 75, beloved husband of Mary Jane (Ficaro) for just short of 55 years, passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday, July 9th. Son of the late Andrew and Agnes Anderson, Bob was a lifelong resident of Old Saybrook and a cherished brother, dad, grand dad, Poppi, uncle, brother- in- law and friend. He was predeceased by Paul and Mary Ficaro.
Bob grew up in Knollwood, pitched for the Old Saybrook baseball team, and graduated OSHS. He met and married the love of his life, a summer resident from Hartford. He was a printer at R & R Donnelly, New Haven Register, and most recently worked for Northeast Medical, where he connected with many people while providing and maintaining their medical equipment.
Bob, or "Captain Bob" as he was affectionately known, was an avid sportsman, enjoying shoreline life of boating, lobstering, and fishing. His life revolved around his wife, whom he adored, and his daughters who he was so proud of. We enjoyed many years of summer vacations in Block Island on the "Misty", named after their wedding song. Bob raised many beagles for hunting, but his most beloved pet was his Cavalier "Bentley" who accompanied him and Mary Jane on every boat and truck ride. Most recently "Calvin" was his devoted lap dog. Most recently, he achieved his lifelong dream of owning a house on the water with a boat in Port Charlotte, Florida.
He loved music and enjoyed watching his daughters pursue their interests. Additionally, he shared his passion of fishing and shooting with his grandson, Nick. Most special to him was his daily breakfast looking out at the birds each morning, rides around the water, and admiring his meticulous yard. He greeted each day with a positive attitude, making every hour and minute count. He treasured being with his wife, girls, and son in laws.
In addition to his soul mate Mary Jane, Bob leaves his 3 girls and son in laws Cynthia and Ed Riccio, Cherie Anderson Mucha and Tom Mucha, both of Old Saybrook, and Carol & Chris Pelletier from Sarasota, Florida. He leaves a sister Joan Rochette, grandchildren Ryan, Sarah and Jason Lafleur, Nicholas and Julia Pelletier, great grandson Kaleb Lafleur, and sister- in- law Paula Moran who spent many summers and special times with him. Uncle Bobby leaves five nieces and nephews, a special friend and fishing buddy Jim Denien, his colleagues, clients and friends.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, July 14, 4-7 pm at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook. A Christian mass will be held Friday, July 15, at 10:30 am at St. John's Church, 161 Main Street, Old Saybrook. There will be no burial.
