Robert Francis O'Connell, age 76, passed away, Thursday, October 27, 2016 surrounded by his loved ones. He was the beloved husband of Joyce A. (Behilo) O'Connell. Born in Greenfield, MA, he was the son of late Benjamin and Josephine (Yetter) O'Connell. He is predeceased by his siblings John, Mary, Barbara and Paul. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, stationed in Morocco, Africa. Robert attended U-Mass Amherst while bringing up his four young children with his wife Joyce.He worked as an engineer for the Comm. of Mass for over forty years. Before retirement, he was the resident engineer at the Mass State Police Barracks in Dartmouth, MA. He also engineered the Taunton and Fall River court houses; as well as the Transportation Building in Boston, MA. Robert also worked privately for Bay State Drywall in Freetown, MA.Although he raised his family in Granby, M., he resided for thirty-two years in So. Dartmouth, MA.Robert was an avid reader, golfer and Antique dealer. He traveled extensively with his wife for decades. He was a Little League Coach for his three sons; hosted many political functions in his town of Granby, Ma. He was a Red Sox and Pats fan; and attended one of his dear friends, Michael Young, and his gang, for game time on Sunday's. Also, cherished family reunions; 4th of July Cookouts, including son, Brian O'Connell's in Chicopee and Robert II in So. Hadley.Robert leaves his children: Kevin and wife Rhonda of Fleming Island, FL, Brian and wife Joanne of Chicopee, Ma, Kathleen O' Connell and husband D.J. Piva of Dartmouth, Robert II and wife Diane of So. Hadley, MA. AND Thomas, his beloved CAT. His eight grandchildren include, Eric, Kyle, Zachary, Kelsey, Cassandra Kasevich and husband Kory, Molly, Bobby and Kaitlin. Three great grandchildren include Tanner, Shane and Jacob along with many nieces and nephews.The Celebration of Life, with Father Stephen Salvador, Robert's friend and neighbor, for reading and prayer, will be held Sunday, November 6, 2016 at 1:00PM in Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours will take place after his service until 3:00PM.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Sippican Health Care Center for their compassionate care extended to Robert and his family for the past three months along with Fidelis Hospice over the past four days.
