Robert G. March 90 of Kapper Drive, Winchester, NH died on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Applewood Care and Rehabilitation Center, Winchester.

He was born in Gettysburg, PA on February 16, 1927 the son of George and Madeline (Sprinkle) March.

He was a graduate of Gettysburg High School where he was the president of the freshman class, and Gettysburg College. Robert also attended Stanford University in California for a year as part of the US Army Specialized Training Advanced Program for Pre-Engineering while serving two years with the US Army.

Mr. March received All State recognition for basketball in high school and was a four year letterman in basketball at Gettysburg College, as well as being chosen for Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. Robert was recognized at the 2003 and 2004 annual Keene State College Athletic Awards Banquet as the number one Keene State College sports fan of the year.

Mr. March started with the Sears Roebuck and Company as a Management Trainee upon graduation from college and worked with Sears for twenty- six years. He spent seven years in Keene, NH, initially managing the Keene store as well as the catalog stores in Claremont, NH, Springfield, VT, and Brattleboro, VT. Mr. March then spent two years with the Caldor Company as a regional director of personnel and training before becoming affiliated with Cheshire Employment Services in Keene. Robert purchased the agency which he owned for eleven years before selling the business and retiring in 1992.

His activities included serving on the Board of Directors of the Greater Keene Chamber of Commerce, the Keene Family YMCA, Distributive Education, the Keene State College Owls Athletic Club, the New Hampshire Association of Personnel Consultants, and was President of the Meadowlands Condo Association. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Keene Swamp Bats baseball team.

He was a Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and also chaired the Dinner/Theater Program for eight of the ten years that he served on the YMCA Board. He also served as President of the KSC Owls Board of Directors. Mr. March was very active with the Keene Senior Softball League since its inception serving as secretary and public relations director, as well as a player, manager and sponsor.

Mr. March was an avid volleyball and racquetball player for many years at the Keene YMCA. He was also a member of the Keene Lodge of Elks # 927, the Loyal Order of Moose # 478 and the Gordon-Bissell American Legion Keene Post #4. He was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Keene.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Alma (Rausch) March of Winchester, NH; two sons, Kenneth March of Concord, NH and David March of Boston, MA; two step-daughters; a step-son; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. Two grandsons, Brendan and Ryan March were the light of his life and were a source of pride and joy. He was predeceased by two brothers, George March and Frederick March.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 11:00AM in the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene. Burial with military honors will follow in the Monadnock View Cemetery, Park Avenue, Keene, NH.
