Robert H. (Bob) Lewis,90, passed away at home surrounded by his family, on March 27, 2017 after a long illness. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Doris Lewis, his parents, Joseph & Ruth Lewis, his siblings, Joseph Lewis, Dottie Brotzman, Ruth Wilcox, and Richard Lewis, as well as son-in-law, Michael Melia. He is survived by his children, Cathleen Lewis, Robert Lewis, Wendy Melia, Jeffrey Lewis, and Theresa Lewis; grandchildren, Doug Decker, Nicole, Sara and Emily Melia; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and his faithful companions Buddy and Tippy. Dad served as a corpsman in the United States Navy during World War II and Korea. He loved history and took us camping at many historical sites. He would tell us about them in a way that made us feel like we where there when it happened. He could also fix anything from broken toys to broken hearts. Dad was completely devoted to his family. There was nothing he wouldn't do for us. He cared for Mom when she developed Alzheimers and made sure that she stayed home until the end. He believed in looking out for those he loved, and regularly checked in on his brothers' and sisters' family members after they were gone. He will be greatly missed, but is finally reunited with Mom. Special thanks to Joe Lewis and his family for all they did for Dad during his illness. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 4-6 pm at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson. A funeral mass will be offered on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 10:00 am at St Francis of Assisi. A burial with Military honors will follow in Chenango Valley Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Arthritis National Research Foundation, 5354 East 2nd Street, Suite 201, Long Beach, CA 90803.
