Robert J. Heidtke passed away on October 27, 2017 in Sun City West, Arizona from complications arising from bone marrow cancer acquired at the age of 91.
Born on November 16, 1925 to Rudolf and Melita Heidtke in Jackson, Wisconsin, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Fred Heidtke.
He graduated from Cedarburg High School in 1943 and attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. He married Iliene Harvey on June 4, 1950 in Deshler, Nebraska and went on to teach at Peace Lutheran Parochial school near Deshler NE before entering the Air Force in 1951. Stationed in Ulm, Germany he served as squadron interpreter. He returned to the US in 1954 and was stationed at Yuma, AZ AFB for the duration of his enlistment. Robert received an honorable discharge in 1955, returned to Lincoln Nebraska and worked at Western Electric before moving to Phoenix in 1960. He joined and subsequently retired from General Electric/Honeywell in 1992.
Robert is survived by his wife Iliene, son Trent and his wife Susan, daughter Julie Strutton and her husband Steve, grandson Shawn, and great-granddaughter Elizabeth.
Robert was affectionately known as a Johnny Carson look-alike and even received an autographed photo from Johnny Carson himself. He and Iliene were members of the Elks and Moose and loved to dance at those functions. They also enjoyed riding their bicycles regularly around their neighborhoods. Robert was a die-hard Cubs fan and of course, a Green Bay Packer fan.
Funeral service and internment is scheduled at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary on Thursday, November 2, 2017 for family members.
Please, no flowers. If you would like to send a memorial, the family suggests Honor Flight Arizona, Hospice of Arizona, or the American Cancer Society.
