Robert LeRoy Smith Sr. (Bobby) was born on March 16, 1938 in Nebraska City, NE to father, Charlie C. Smith and mother, Gertrude Dean Smith. His parents moved to Omaha when he was at a young age.

Robert married Constance D. (Connie) Mackey on August 10, 1958 and from this union of 59 years three sons, Robert LeRoy Jr., Raymond Leon, and Richard Leonard were born.



Bob accepted Christ at an early age at Mount Calvary Community Church of Omaha, NE. Later he became a faithful member of Pilgrim Baptist Church where he served as an usher and on the Culinary Ministry Team. Bob enjoyed reading and memorizing scriptures from the bible.



It was at Technical High School where his interested began in the field of culinary arts and Bob continued his education at University Of Nebraska at Omaha receiving his Associates degree in culinary arts. Later, Bob became a Chef at Brandeis Catering where he worked for over 50 years. Bob was known for his ice carvings and received several awards for his creative works of art made from food.



Bob was an avid bowler and was on several leagues throughout the years. His son, Raymond, enjoyed bowling on the same leagues alongside his dad.



Christmas was one of his favorite times of the year and you could always count on Bob and Connie’s yard to be decorated. Multiple years their decorated yard was featured on television and won several awards.



Bob was a man who truly loved his family, he taught his sons good work ethics and family values. Bob encouraged his sons to be better than average and to always excel to their highest potential. Bob loved to cookout and attend family reunion celebrations.



Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles and son, Raymond.



Robert leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Connie; sons: Robert LeRoy Jr., & Richard Leonard; sisters: Mrs. Lucille Paris & Mrs. Mary Edwards; aunt: Mrs. Jeanette Weedon-Brown; brother-in-laws: John W. (Bonita) Mackey Sr. (Ellisville, MO), Herbert G. (Suzan) Mackey; sister-in-law: Mrs. Doris Tate; nephew: William; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
