Robert Ray Watts, age 89, of Mason, Michigan, died peacefully on Sunday, January 29, 2017. He was born to Lillian and James Watts on April 22, 1927. On February 8, 1947, Bob married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Ann, and they celebrated 64 years of marriage before she passed away in 2011.

Bob was born in Detroit and raised in Clawson. After graduating from high school in 1945, he joined the army and was stationed in Germany. He was a proud Michigan State Spartan, and after graduation, took his first teaching and coaching job in Goodrich. In 1952, he went to Southfield, where he coached, taught, was counselor and athletic director, eventually moving to administrative assistant to the superintendent. He came to Mason in 1966, and was Superintendent of Mason Public Schools, retiring in 1981. He worked in the Placement Office at MSU, and ended his working career with Granger Construction Company.

Bob was an avid bridge player. He also loved to play tennis and golf, and those who played with him, know he was an avid competitor who played to win. Bob thoroughly enjoyed searching for the perfect car for anyone who asked. He and his wife enjoyed winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama, for 17 years, and also traveled to Europe on several occasions.

Bob was a devoted family man, loving husband and father. He is survived by his children, Sharon (Tom) King, Barb (Randy) Mastin, and Jim (Carolyn) Watts. He was the proud grandfather of Mike (Mindy) King, Sarah (Jay) Shelton, Kellie (Jeremy) Doerr, Beth (Tyler) Holtz, Laura (Peter) Piper, Katie Watts and Amanda Watts. Bob was great grandfather to Daniel and Hannah King, Andrew and Ryan Shelton, Logan and Ethan Doerr, Emerson Watts, Tessa Holtz and Reid Piper.

Bob's family would like to thank the staff at Green Acres of Mason for the love and support they gave him during the time he was a resident. The care he received from them was a comfort for his family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a contribution to the charity or cause of your choice in honor of Bob and a life well lived. Visitation will be held February 18, 2017, 11 a.m. to 1 pm, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 621 S. Jefferson Street, Mason.
