Robert W. Henderson NEW SALEM- Robert Warren Henderson, 86, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2011 at Prescott House in North Andover. Born February 19, 1925, the son of the late James and Leora (Clapp) Henderson of Holden. He graduated with the Class of 1943 from Holden High School. He served in the Naval Air Corps during World War Two and as part of his service, he attended St. Mary's College in California and Williams College in Massachusetts, and graduated from Worcester Polytechnical Institute with an Engineering degree. He married Lois Peterson in 1945, enjoying 41 years together until her passing in 1986. A meeting at a class reunion led to a marriage to Patricia (Bubar) Garofoli in 2001. After the war and marriage, he went to work at the Alden Laboratories in Holden, working in water flow and water control engineering. He was hired by the Rodney Hunt Company in Orange in 1956, starting out in the sales department. Eventually, he became vice-president of sales and the engineering departments, before retiring in 1993. Moving from Princeton to New Salem in 1956, he would become quite involved in the operation of the Town, serving as a fireman, selectman, assessor, board of health, moderator, dog officer, and Santa Claus. While eventually retiring from these posts, he never retired from his service to the New Salem Central Congregational Church, serving it in every way he could except as minister. He leaves his wife Pat, of North Andover, with whom he lived; two sons, Robert T. "Bo" and his wife Janet of New Salem and their son Shane Dempsey of Brussells, Belgium, and David A. "Hondo" of Orange; four step children, Elaine of Jamaica Plain, Jeanne Kaufman of Andover, Peter of Andover, and David of San Francisco, CA; four step grandchildren; two brothers, Donald of Worcester and Richard of Gaithersburg, MD; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers, William and James; and sisters, Marjorie and Shirley. Calling hours will be held Tuesday evening, April 26, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning, April 27th at 10 a.m. at the New Salem Central Congregational Church, 22 South Main Street, New Salem, with Rev. Chris Raker officiating. Interment will follow in Center Cemetery, New Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the New Salem Central Congregational Church, P.O.
