Robert Walter Drew left this earthly world May 14th 2017. He was born January 7, 1924 in
Chicago Illinois where he attended local schools until World War II prompted him to join the
Navy serving in the Pacific Theater. He was especially proud of his military service. After the war
ended he was stationed in California when his sister Lorraine and her girlfriend Claire came to
visit. Claire became his wife in 1946 and the first of his four daughters was born in 1947. Bob
started his career working for Mitchell Camera in Los Angeles later accepting a position in the
mechanical engineering lab at UCLA. In 1962 he was recruited to establish the mechanical
engineering lab at UC Davis retiring in 1983. Since his retirement he was active in several
service organizations including DAV, American Legion, Davis Odd-Fellows, and most notably
VFW post 4647. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Helen Drew and his
sister Lorraine Wasik. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Claire and his four daughters,
Nancy Johnson, Joyce Snyder, Diane Ayala (Steve) and Marianne Drew. He also leaves 9
grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Reichert's Funeral Chapel, 7320 Auburn Blvd., Citrus Heights, CA on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 11:00 AM.
