Robert Magner, 72, of Watsonville died March 21, 2015 at his home.
He was born March 9, 1943 in Framingham, Mass. He was the son of the late Jim and Anita Magner, and the father of the late Tyler Magner. He is survived by his wife, Janet Kreitzer.
He graduated from Franklin Institute in Boston in Photography.
After moving to the West Coast, he worked in the late 1960s as a commercial photographer with Charlie Schnider in San Diego, and under contract with Pacific Southwest Airlines for PSA's in-flight magazine, publicity photos and advertising. He worked as a photographer for the Andy Williams San Diego Open Golf Tournament. He went out in the field in a Cessna 180 aircraft with Arnold Sentefit to photograph and document the small landing strips in Baja, Mexico. That work was published as a field guide for pilots of small planes, "Airports of Baja."
He was an expert mechanic and schooled in all the trades. Before his retirement, he worked as a pool systems technician. His customers requested him and often became friends with him.
He was a kind, caring, loving husband, highly intelligent and a spirited partner. He was a devoted son and father.
He loved walking on the beach, creating beautiful images through his lifelong skill and artistry as a photographer, kayaking, camping, spending time with his friends and being at home with his wife, Janet.
Arrangements are by Mehls funeral home. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
