Robert was born on June 5, 1922 and passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2017.

Robert was a resident of Tennessee.

Mr. McGowan received his B.A. at Lambuth College and his M.A. from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. Mr. McGowan also completed additional coursework at the University of Missouri the University of Idaho and the University of North Carolina.

Mr. McGowan was a proud of the U.S. Army during World War II serving in the European Theater with the Third U.S. Army under General George Patton.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday May 27 2017 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. A visitation will be from 1 to 2 P.M. Saturday May 27 2017 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. The officiant will be Dean Andy Andrews Dean of St. Mary's Cathedral in Memphis. Personal remarks will be given by Wesley Roberts and a poem will be read by Mr. McGowan's granddaughters. A Private Burial Service will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery in Humboldt TN.

In lieu of flowers it is requested that donations be made to the Nature Conservancy Tennessee Chapter Headquarters 210 25th Avenue North Suite 810 Nashville TN 37203.
