Rocco P. Silvestri, 97, of Niantic, formerly of West Hartford and Lake Worth, FL, passed away peacefully on Nov. 22, 2016 with his loving daughters by his side. He was a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend to many. While thoughtful and loving, he was also known for his unique sense of humor. Born on Dec. 3, 1918 in Corleto Perticara, Province of Potenza, Italy, he was the son of the late Dominick and Donata (Ducatelli) Silvestri. Rocco immigrated to the Hartford area with his family when he was 17 years old. He was a proud World War II Army veteran, serving four years as a chief mechanic in the South Pacific. He returned to Connecticut and married the late Triestina (Laraia) Silvestri in 1947. They were happily married for 50 years. Rocco was a successful business owner, operating Rocky's Motor Sales in West Hartford for more than 30 years. After retiring, he and Triestina divided their time between Connecticut and Florida. In retirement, Rocco enjoyed crafting and sold his woodwork at local craft fairs. He also enjoyed video recording family events and actively followed NASCAR and Indy auto racing. Rocco was a proud member of The Knights of Columbus earning his fourth degree in 1957. He was additionally involved with the Italian Club, the Sons of Italy, the New England Club, and the Elks. He was also active at both the Lake Worth Senior Center and the East Lyme Senior Center. Rocco will be remembered by his daughter, Maria Boulden of Coral Springs, FL, and daughter Donata and husband John Manuck of Palm Coast, FL. Rocco was predeceased by his son-in-law, James Boulden. He was also predeceased by sisters Rose (Silvestri) Donnoli and Mary Silvestri, and brothers Peter and Vincent Silvestri. Rocco was the proud grandfather of Tracy and Christine Manuck, Laura Shepherd and Linda Bent, and took great delight in his eight great-grandchildren. The Silvestri family would like to thank Crescent Point in Niantic for their kind and competent care during the past year and a half as well as the St. Agnes Church community and K of C Council 5633 for their friendship and liturgical support while at Crescent Point. Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 5th at St. Agnes Church, 22 Haigh Avenue, Niantic, at 11:00 AM. Burial is private, immediately following the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Rocco's name to Knights of Columbus Council 5633, PO Box 342, Niantic, CT 06357.
