Roeley Elvina Giusti passed away on May 22, 2017 at age 96. She was born in Fort Bragg, California, and was raised on the family ranch in Ukiah by her parents Louis and Josephine Sargentini.
Roeley moved to San Francisco after high school and worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad. During World War II, along with other SP ladies, she wrote to SP workers who were serving in Europe. She began to write to Joe Giusti, whom she later married. She moved to Citrus Heights with Joe and raised two sons, Richard and Robert.
Roeley and Joe were charter members of Holy Family Parish, and she was also a founding member of the Catholic Ladies' Relief Society at the parish. She was an active member of the Citrus Heights community, working for incorporation and, as its "unofficial historian", writing three books on Citrus Heights and its early families. She was active in Boy Scouts for many years as well. Roeley also found time to work as a reporter for the Roseville Press Tribune covering Citrus Heights, and edited the Western Fire Journal.
Roeley was predeceased by her husband Joe, brothers Dan and Bruno Sargentini, and sister Julia Rafferty. She is survived by her two sons, six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
The family is grateful to Andrei, Maria, and Daniel Costea, and the staff of Palmera Care Home for the loving support they gave Roeley during her final illness.
Funeral services will be held on Friday June 2, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 7817 Old Auburn Road, Citrus Heights, CA. A rosary will be held at 10:00 with the funeral mass at 10:30. Interment will be at Sylvan Cemetary.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the Catholic Ladies Relief Society Chapter 11 at Holy Family Parish
