Roger Adrian Carrier, Jr., 64, long time resident of Swanzey, passed away surrounded by family on December 19, 2017 at Cheshire Medical Center following a period of declining health.

He was born January 24, 1953 in Winchendon, MA, the son of Mary E. (Caouette) and Roger A. Carrier, Sr. He attended Emerson Elementary School in Fitzwilliam and graduated from Monadnock Regional High School in Swanzey. After high school, Roger proudly joined the United States Navy and returned home as a Vietnam Veteran.

On May 18, 1974 Roger married the love of his life, Rae Hammond. Together they celebrated over 43 years.

As an active member of the VFW Post 799, Roger served as the current Commander and Junior Vice of District 5. Up until his retirement, he was employed by Port-O-Lite as a woodworker. He had also spent time working for Yankee Signs.

Roger was known as a creative man who could fix anything. He dabbled in mechanics and painted cars. Wood carving was not only a hobby, but a great talent Roger possessed and for which he was featured on an episode of PBS's NH Roadside Stories. He was a strait to the point kind of guy who was down to Earth and enjoyed the simple things in life. He had strong opinions balanced out by good sense of humor. Roger was always interested in learning and reading about something new. He was especially interested in the History Channel and all things regarding aliens and Bigfoot.

Roger will be dearly missed by his loving wife: Rae Carrier of Swanzey; daughters: Yvonne Peters and her husband Scott of Troy, and Amy Carrier of Keene; grandchildren: Michael Peters and Andrew Peters; sisters: Susan Taylor and her husband Jeff of Richmond, and Elizabeth Pursell and her husband Dean of Richmond; brother: Robert Carrier of Fitzwilliam; niece: Lynsey Pursell; and nephews: William Packard, Adrian Packard, Ross Pursell, Matthew Pursell, and Tyler Carrier. He was predeceased by his parents .

Family and friends are invited to call at Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro Street, Keene, NH on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A brief service will be held for those who can attend at 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will be he held on January 6, 2018 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the VFW, 459 Winchester Street, Keene, NH. A spring burial with Military Honors will take place in the family lot at the Earl Howard Memorial Cemetery in Richmond, NH.
