Roger Lee Ellis
Of Man, WV
Roger Lee Ellis, 37, of Man, departed this life suddenly on Friday, August 9, 2013, at CAMC-Memorial Division at Charleston.
He was born on July 10, 1976, at Man, the son of Rev. Allen and Anna Mae Ellis Sprouse of Amherstdale.
Roger was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leonard and Ledna Thomas Ellis; his uncles, Roger Lee Ellis, Otis Ellis, and Junie Dials; his aunt, Donna Jean Bartram; and cousins, Blaine "Bub" Copley and Brandy Proffitt.
He was a 1994 graduate of Man High School where he played Man High Hillbillies football. Roger proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp for four years. Devoted to his children, he coached Man Midget League Football and Little League Baseball. Before the accident that left him a quadriplegic, Roger was a coal miner formerly employed with Rock House Mining and Mingo-Logan Coal Company. An avid supporter of youth sports, he continued, even after his accident, to coach Midget League Football. Roger was an inspiration to all the youth in the Man area.
Those left to cherish his memory, in addition to his parents, are his children, Kirsten Ellis and Houston Ellis, both of Man; his step-children, Christian McCoy and Dustin McCoy, both of Man; one sister, Elaine Blankenship of SC; one half-sister, Heather Sadler of VA; one half-brother, Steven Sprouse of VA; his nephews and niece, Ken, Ace, and Starr Blankenship, all of South Carolina; his aunts and uncles, Alice Copley of Amherstdale, Nancy (Teddy) Frye of Greenville, Leon Ellis of Madison, and Eddie Ellis of Amherstdale; his cousins who dearly loved and helped him, Bradley Ellis of Chapmanville and Kristy Ellis of Charleston; and his other loving cousins, Teddy Frye, Shane Frye, Angie Doty, Joey Ellis, Mary Catherine Ellis, Shelly Ellis, Lisa Copley, Clyde Bartram, and Donna Jean Proffitt; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2012, at the Lundale Freewill Baptist Church at Lundale with Rev. Bobby Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
