COLUMBIA - Roland “Ronnie” Ibra Quattlebaum, 91, went home to Jesus on March 9th 2017.



Born September 22, 1925 in Statesboro, Ga., he is the son of the late William Floyd and Thelma Porter Quattlebaum.



Surviving are his beloved wife of 67 years, Lenora Crapse Quattlebaum; sons, Larry Roland Quattlebaum (Stephanie) and Robert David Quattlebaum (Laura); daughters, Victoria Q. Kinsey (Jud) and Sharyn Q. Myers; nine grandchildren, Bert Kinsey (Katie), Glen Kinsey (Jenny), Robert Myers, Ryan Quattlebaum (Mandy), Brian Myers, Alli Quattlebaum, Garth Hill, William Myers, Railey Quattlebaum; and nine great-grandchildren, Tucker, Harrison, Jackson, Cooper, Benjamin, Katherine, Ella, Reagan, Hadley. They call him Grandy.



Ronnie was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII. He retired from Southern Bell in 1980 after 33 years, receiving several awards for exemplary service. During that time he was an active leader in the Boy Scouts and Explorers at Shandon Baptist Church receiving the Silver Beaver award for distinguished service to boyhood. Ronnie had a heart for service and used his telephone and electrical skills to set up and install many teletype phones for the deaf community as a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Ronnie loved to be outside working on any project, especially his lake house and blueberry bushes. As a devoted follower of Christ he was a long time member of Shandon Baptist Church. He served as deacon and had various other roles. Ronnie shared his strong love of Christ with any and all he met.



Visitation will be on Monday, March 13, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. prior to the 2:00 p.m. funeral service at Shandon Baptist Church, Columbia, S.C.



Memorials can be made to the American Red Cross, Shandon Baptist Church or Boy Scouts of America.
