Dr. Ronald A. Shaw, M.D., was born on 07/20/1946 in Toledo, OH. Since the age of six, he wanted to be a doctor and pursued that dream. He graduated from the University of Toledo and Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis, MO. He served in the US Air Force at Maxwell AFB. He went to Birmingham and started his career at Baptist Montclair and served 4 years. Then joined Caraway Methodist Medical Center ER and flew on the Life Saver helicopter for 4 years. He was honored to be the first Board Certified Emergency Physician in the state of Alabama and enjoyed riding with First Responders. Next, he joined the UAB ER where he became the first Director of Emergency Medicine for 4 years. He developed the first Emergency Medicine Residency Program in Alabama. He also served on the UAB medical jet. Afterwards, he moved to Rhode Island where he was an Associate Professor of Surgery at Brown University and served in the Rhode Island Hospital Trauma Center over 7 years. He returned to Alabama to serve with the Baptist Medical Centers South and East and loved every day for over 21 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Eve Shaw.
Dr. Shaw is survived by his wife, Carol Shaw; sons, Robert Shaw, Daniel (Heather) Shaw, and Benjamin (Wendy) Shaw; granddaughter, Taylor Shawn; and sister, Amey Shaw.
A Mass will take place at St. Peters in Montgomery, AL on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Holy Spirit at 8570 Vaughn Road, Montgomery, AL 36117 or Valley Forge Military Academy at 1001 Eagle Road, Wayne, PA 19087.
