Ronald L. Newsum, of Teaneck, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017. Mr. Newsum was born in Fillmore, California, son of the late Bonnie and Lester Newsum. He was a retired teacher at Fair Lawn High School, and was chairman of the Industrial Arts Department and a woodshop teacher. Over the years his students won many awards for their projects. He was a graduate of Chico State College in California. Ronald proudly served in the U.S. Army Special Forces first graduating class as a Green Beret. He is survived by his beloved wife Jane of 52 years. Devoted father of Susan and husband David Hurtado, and Dana Newsum. Dear grandfather of Sierra and Hunter Newsum, and their mother Clara. He is the dear brother of his sister Doris Hull and husband Larry, brother Paul Newsum, and his late sister Vera Smith. A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 17th at the William G. Basralian Funeral Home, 559 Kinderkamack Rd., Oradell from 1-4PM, concluding with a funeral service at 4PM. Cremation will be private. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corp., 855 Windsor Rd., Teaneck, NJ 07666.
