COLUMBIA - Rosa “Reid” Russell Owens, 91, died in the comfort of her home on June 6, 2017. She was born October 20, 1925 in Farmville, NC, to the late Ernest L. and Mary Holloman Russell.



Reid grew up in Farmville, married her high school sweetheart in 1943, then moved around to various bases as a military wife, finally settling in Columbia in 1967. She retired from civil service after 25 years culminating as Supervisory Budget Analyst for DOL at Fort Jackson. She was an active member of Asbury Memorial UMC for 50 years, where she loved participating with the UMW and helping cook for church activities. She was a long time volunteer for Meals on Wheels and had a passion for helping others.. Her greatest love was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she will be remembered by all for her famous peach honey.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Owens; siblings, A. Linwood Russell, William Russell, Edward Lee Russell, and Mary Frances Hall. She is survived by two sons, Edward J. Owens, Jr. (Columbia) and Michael R. Owens (Goose Creek) and daughter, Reid O. Stevenson (Las Vegas, NV); five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.



A visitation for family and friends will be held at 12:00 p.m. on June 9, 2017 at Asbury Memorial UMC, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m.
