Rosalie "Jean" Smith was born August 5, 1930 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of the late Delbert and Katherine Leland, passed away June 4, 2017 at the age of 86. Jean moved to Galesburg, Michigan in 1945. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1948. Jean married Duane A. Smith in 1950. The first 25 years of their life together consisted of moving all over the State of Michigan for her husband's career as a Michigan State Police Officer. They settled in Mason Michigan in 1965. Jean was employed with the City of Mason as an accountant for 15 years under the treasurer's department. She was also employed for 16 years as a Resident Manager for Gorsline Runciman Ball-Dunn Chapel in Mason, Michigan. Jean was a former member of the 1st United Methodist Church of Mason and Naomi Circle Chairman for 2 years as well as a current member of the Laingsburg United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother in-laws, Ledward and Craig "Corky" Smith; sister in-law, Roberta "Susie" Smith. She is survived by husband, Duane A. Smith of 66 years; her daughter, Sandra (David) Patrick; son, Glen (Susan) Smith; grandchildren, Kathryn (Ken) Nugent, Victoria Patrick, William Patrick, Megan (Mike) Walters, Derek Smith, Lauro Valles and Conner Vasilion; great grandson, Charles Walters; in laws, Darlene Smith, Carolyn and Donald Roberts.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 9, 2017 at the Laingsburg United Methodist Church, 210 Crum Street, Laingsburg, MI 48848. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church, and also, one hour prior to the service. Private interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Mason. For those desiring, contributions can be made to the church.
