Roy Alan Buskirk, 72, of Fort Wayne went to be with his Lord and Savior November 4, 2016. He was born June 25, 1944 in rural Allen County to the late Ruhl and Lois (Coverdale) Buskirk. He graduated from Lafayette Central High School in 1962 and later from International Business College. Roy served in Vietnam as a sergeant in the U. S. Army with the 82nd Airborne Military Police, assigned to the criminal investigation division. He then returned home to the family farm in rural Allen County to farm with his father and brother and served as a regional supervisor for the National Farmers Organization. He became a realtor and auctioneer, gradually developing Roy Buskirk Realty in Ossian, IN where he focused on being a right-of-way buyer for county and state projects. He served on the Allen County Council for 14 years. Roy had many interest and was involved in numerous organization such as being an actively serving, life time member of the Nine Mile United Methodist Church, in addition to serving as a Gideon. He was very passionate about supporting our servicemen in the Military. He had a strong interest in the Civil War and was a member of the Civil War Trust. He was a member of the Republican Party of Allen County and served as a precinct representative. Roy was the current President of the Allen County Council, where he was privileged and honored to serve the people of Allen County. He was an avid Purdue Boilermaker, as he was a member of the John Purdue Club, season ticket holder, and helped coach at the summer Purdue Basketball Camps for 7 years. He was involved in Wells County 4 - H as a leader and committee member and coached minor league baseball for several years. He was a member of the ACRES Land Trust, American Legion #241, and the Indiana Auctioneer Association. Being a passionate man, Roy always stood up for what he thought was right. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a man of strong faith and a friend to so many, never meeting a stranger. He loved sharing stories and telling jokes to anyone who would listen. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Roy is survived by his wife, Karen (Charleswood) Buskirk; daughter, Michelle (Chris) McBurney of New Castle, KY; sons, Matthew (Melinda) Buskirk of Ossian and Shawn (Tonya) Teegardin of Erie, CO; 10 grandchildren, with one on the way, due April 2017, Jared, Kennedy, and Addie Rose McBurney, Caroline, Isabell, Katelyn, and Megan Buskirk, and Baylee, Shelby, and Samantha Teegardin; sisters, Claris Eversole of Plant City, FL, Arlene (Bruce) Lenich of Telford, PA, and Amy (Stan) Zent of Indianapolis; brother, Marvin (Ednalyn) Buskirk of Fort Wayne; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and mother in law, Robert and Lois Charleswood; son, Michael Buskirk; daughter, Shannon Teegardin; granddaughter, Samantha Buskirk; and brother in law, Kedrick Eversole. Funeral service will be Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 2 PM at Nine Mile United Methodist Church, 6303 Winters Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46809 with visitation 2 hours prior. Visitation will also be on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from 12 to 3 PM and 5 to 8 PM at the Church. Burial will be in the Nine Mile United Methodist Maple Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Nine Mile United Methodist Church or the Nile Mile Maple Lawn Cemetery.
