Rubye Helen Boyd aka "Granny," barely five feet tall and 75lbs soaking wet, met each day with an enthusiasm and wit that belied her 94 years and stature - heaven help anyone who wasn't a Dallas Cowboys fan!

Rubye was born in the foothills of West Virginia on Wednesday, April 26, 1922. Strong-willed all her life, she married Thomas J. Boyd of Houston on Tuesday, December 5, 1944 despite a room full of crying ex-girlfriends at their wedding ceremony (courtesy of her future mother-in-law who sent out the invitations). In warm, sunny Houston she made a life, raised children and then later grandchildren, and, in 1987, retired from Spring Branch ISD as cafeteria manager after 26 years of service.

On Sunday, December 4, 2016, one day before her wedding anniversary, Rubye "died away" peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones. She is preceded in death by her husband and is survived by their four children, Helen Hext, Ginger DeKay, Becky Boyd, and Thomas J. Boyd, Jr., and their six grandchildren, Gary Maddox, Jr., Sandy Spivak, Bobbie Jo Shoemake, Amanda Hext, Breanna Boyd and T.J. Boyd, III.

Rubye is now in Heaven with her beloved husband and her Lord Jesus Christ.

A memorial service was led by Mr. Charles Gamble, at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston, on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested monetary donations to Second Baptist Church "in honor of Rubye Boyd- Missions Ministry" and mailed to: 6400 Woodway Dr. Houston, TX 77057.
