Rudolph (Rudy) Joseph Zabak, 91, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2017. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Rudy was a resident of Tampa for most of his adult life. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Lillie Ficarrotta Zabak. He is survived by his children Richard Zabak (Elizabeth), Diane Weems (David), and Debbie Zabak; grandchildren Christopher Weems (Nichole), Brian Hoyer, and Matthew Weems; sister Vickie Marsolek; brothers Ray Zabak and Bob Zabak (Kathy); and numerous nephews, nieces, and other relatives.

Rudy owned and operated the Chatterbox Lounge on South Howard from 1957 to 1981. The Box was a special gathering place for patrons from all walks of life. Rudy went out on top, retiring and selling the Chatterbox in 1981 while he was young enough to enjoy his favorite pastime of golf, and time with family and friends. Rudy’s family would like to thank the caregivers at The Abigail House for their compassionate and warm care during his final year of life. We will be forever grateful.

There will be a visitation at Blount and Curry Funeral Home, 605 South MacDill Avenue, Tampa, FL on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 5 PM to 7 PM. The graveside service will be a private family ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the fund established at Jesuit High School of Tampa in the name of the priest and friend who married Rudy and Lillie and many other members of their family: The Father Richard G. Hartnett Endowment.
