Russell Daniel “Pete” Johnson passed away at his home in Charlottesville on August 2, 2017. He was born July 25, 1932 to the late James Aubrey Johnson, Sr. and Alma Holloway Johnson. Pete is also preceded in death by his much beloved daughter Anne Johnson, son-in-law John Taylor and his siblings Helen N. Johnson, Ruby Johnson Marsh, James A. Johnson, Jr. and Robert R. Johnson. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Millie Herron Johnson, to whom he was married for nearly 64 years. Also mourning his loss are his daughters Sharon Johnson Taylor, Kelli Johnson Watson and his grandson, Andrew C. Watson.

Throughout the years Pete was the owner of many now iconic local businesses such as The White Spot, The Hoo’s Kitchen, Wayside Takeout and B&R Market. He never met a stranger. You could often hear Pete’s big laugh as he socialized at the Riverside Lunch, the Elks Lodge, the VFW, or the Aberdeen Barn. He always had a helping hand to lend and he will always be fondly remembered for that generosity of spirit.

A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, August 7, 2017 at Belmont Baptist Church with the Reverend Greg Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, August 6, 2017 at the Teague Funeral Home.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Charlottesville/Albemarle Rescue Squad, 828 McIntire Road, Charlottesville, VA 22902 or to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, VA 23060-9979.
