Russell Jay Lawrence, age 67, was born June 13, 1950 to Leroy Lawrence and Jessie Mae (Lung) Lawrence in Soper, Oklahoma. He married Joyce Faye Chapman in Paris, Texas, on January 9, 1976. He retired from the City of Rockwall, as the Parks and Recreation Superintendent, in 2014 after 40 years and 4 months of dedicated, exemplary service to his community. Russell touched so many people's hearts in his lifetime, beginning with his family and reaching far and wide. Every moment in his life was utilized as a teaching moment, or an opportunity to learn something new himself. Even during the last few months of his life, he was touching the lives of people he met during his extended stay in the hospital.

Russell was an avid Oklahoma Sooner fan and truly loved gold panning adventures. Rain or shine, he could always be found fishing, playing and coaching softball, enjoying a football or basketball game, deer hunting, and when the weather cooperated, mastering the golf course. He lovingly shared all these skills with his children and grandchildren. Family was, without a doubt, the most important thing to Russell. He loved nothing more than to be surrounded by his large family during family dinners, where he would inevitably prank everyone. Go Rest High On That Mountain, Russell – Dad – Papa – Brother & Uncle.

"The love in our family grows strong and deep, leaving us memories to treasure and keep."

Russell is preceded in death by both parents and one brother, Kennedy Lawrence
