Ruth E. Miller, formerly of Chenango Bridge, NY passed away January 13 after a brief illness at the UHS Senior Living Center at Chenango Memorial in Norwich, NY. She was 96.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Kenneth, parents Lynn and Ethel Littlefield and brothers Nelson, Earl, and Roy Littlefield. She is survived by her sons Kenneth (Jean), and Donald (Peggy), grandchildren Lindsay, Timothy, and Catherine, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Born in Syracuse and raised in Belle Isle, Ruth led a fun and adventurous youth with her "gang" of pals including her best friend, her brother Roy. Ruth received her teaching degrees from Syracuse University and SUNY Cortland. She was a proud educator of first graders at Chenango Bridge elementary school for 24 years after briefly teaching in Camillus and Weedsport, NY. She often fondly reminisced about her career and her students. She was an active member of Chenango Bridge Methodist Church and was involved in many church clubs and organizations. Ruth and Ken were closely linked to many friends there for almost 40 years.

Ruth's devotion to her students and church was only surpassed by the love and attention she gave her family. She loved the outdoors and taking walks was an activity she enjoyed until her very last days. She always made sure that the family was involved in outdoor sports, camping, and travel. She was strong, determined, and firm in her convictions but always available to listen and help. Her steadfast love, wit, and wisdom will be deeply missed.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Residential Health Care Facility at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich, NY for the loving care she received. We know that you will all miss her vibrant personality.

A service in Ruth's memory will be held at 4 PM on Monday January 16 at the Chenango Bridge United Methodist Church, 740 River Road, Binghamton, NY. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 3 PM. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Ruth may be sent to the Chenango Bridge United Methodist Church, PO Box 501, Chenango Bridge, NY 13745.
