Ruth G. Baumeister, age 95, of Gays Mills, passed away on, Friday, January 31, 2014, at Sannes-Skogdalen Nursing Home in Soldiers Grove. She was born on March 23, 1918, on a farm near Steuben to Percy and Bessie (Champion) Yonker. She was married on June 1, 1938, to Richard Baumeister and preceded her in death on November 6, 2012. In earlier years she traveled with Richard on road construction jobs before returning to farming on the Baumeister home farm. She raised a large garden on the farm and canned lots of tomatoes and corn with help from the children. She and the children ran the farm while Richard worked on construction. In 1974 they moved to Gays Mills where she worked part time at the Haney grade school, then at the high school kitchen for a total of 27 years. She told many stories of growing up on the Steuben farm, learning to swim in the Kickapoo River and doing farm chores and activities with her brother Budd. Her grandparents lived in Barnum so she would go visit them by walking along the river or catching the Kickapoo Stump Dodger train. She celebrated her 74th wedding anniversary with Richard prior to his death in 2012. She was a charter member of the Boscobel Assembly of God Church
She is survived by a daughter, Faith Broberg of Motley, MN; 5 sons, Robert (Sharon) Baumeister of Madison, James (Linda) Baumeister of Baraboo, Mick (Christie) Baumeister of Barnum, David (Carol) Baumeister of Barnum, Steve (Corie) Baumeister of Fredonia; 20 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Maralyn (Odee) Nelson of Colorado Springs, CO, Donna (Stuart) Glasbrenner of Madison, Bette (Terry) Beatty of Dallas TX; brother Richard (Kitty) Yonker of Minneapolis, MN; brother-in-law, Oscar (Dora Jean) Mathews of Lake Isabella, CA; sister-in-law, Elaine (Budd) Yonker of Boscobel.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard, parents, sister, Ona Dalton – Wartgow, brother, Budd (Elaine) Yonker, brother-in-laws, Odee (Maralyn) Nelson, Loren (Dawn) Baumeister, sister-in-law, Dora Jean (Oscar) Matthews, Alice (William) Steele, Jessie (Lawrence) Stowell, Evadna (Paul) Turk, Jennie Baumeister, son-in-law, Mike (Faith) Broberg
Services will be on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Boscobel Assembly of God Church, located at 301 Chestnut Street, Pastor Ryan Langner will officiate with burial in the Gays Mills Cemetery.
Friends may call on Monday, February 3, 204 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Beeman-Patchak Funeral Home, located 104 Fremont St., Boscobel, WI, and also one hour prior to service time at the church.
