Ruth Ross, 90, passed away peacefully at Huntsville Hospital Sunday evening. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeremiah and Adriana (Thompson) Dorsett; her husband, Willie M. Ross; her son, George Laster; her daughter, Adele Myra (Dorsett) Scott; a sister, Lenora Hayes; and a brother, George Dorsett.

Left to cherish her precious memory is her daughter, Irma Russell of Huntsville; son, Richard Laster of Meridianville; three sisters, Roselyn Moncur, Miriam King, and Dorothy Fortson; one brother, Jeremiah Dorsett; her dear step-daughter, Brenda Gail Darden of Atlanta; 14 grandchildren; a large number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Ms. Ross was a Godly woman of strength and character who loved life and family. It’s appropriate that Ruth was born on Valentine’s Day because she was such a sweetheart of a person. She raised four kids in a tiny apartment in Homestead, Florida while holding a job as a cook on the local Air Force Base there. After marrying Willie Ross he became ill and Ruth was his faithful caregiver up until his death. After that she moved to Huntsville to be closer to her family ties. Ruth also came to be known as a great cook--her famous homemade Bread Rolls were sought out by everyone who knew about them. Ruth Ross was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her!

You may visit with the family at the New Life Seventh Day Adventist Church on Pulaski Pike on Monday, June 12, 2017 from 12:00Noon until 1:00PM. A funeral service conducted by Pastor Michael Ross will commence at 1:00PM at the Church. A private family interment will immediately follow in Valhalla Memory Garden’s Gethsemane section.
