Ruth M. Gray, 84, of Port Clinton, died Monday, December 18, 2017 at her residence. She was born January 29, 1933 in Fremont the daughter of Clyde "Bud" and Irma (Hausman) Fought. Ruth attended kindergarten through 2nd grade at Bowling Green State Univeristy teacher's training school. For the rest of her education, through her graduation from W.W. Ross High School in 1950, she attended Fremont Schools.
On September 2, 1950 she married Robert A. Gray, they were married for 50 years. He preceded her in death in 2001. She began her studies in education at the B.G.S.U. branch at Fremont Ross High School and graduated in 1970. She began teaching at Stamm School in 1960 and taught there for nine years. For 16 years, she taught at the Fremont Junior High School on Croghan Street, retiring in 1985. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma while teaching in Fremont, the Cosmopolitan Club and Sandusky Co. Organization of Retired Teachers.
She was trained as a Parish Education Associate and worked at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fremont from 1986-1993. She was responsible for education programs and worked closely with Pastor R.E. Walther to develop several new programs. While there, she worked with others to plan St. John's yearlong 150th anniversary celebration.
She retired from St. John's to care for her husband. After his death, in 2001, she was asked to serve as the Parish Visitor for ST. John's, calling on shut-ins and those in nursing homes. She worked in that capacity for three years.
She then moved to Port Clinton to be near her family. She loved gardening, knitting, crocheting, baking, reading and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fremont, where she was active in its Soup and Shawl Ministry, delivering home communion to shut-ins and those in nursing homes, the church mouse ministry and Joy Circle.
Ruth leaves her children, Gary ( Jill) Gray of Port Clinton, Penny Talbot of Woodville and Linda Minich of St. James, Minnesota, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great- grandchildren, sister Carol (Larry)Kessler of Fremont. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister Mary Schade.

Memorial services will take place on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 11:00 A. M. at Grace Lutheran Church, 705 W. State Street, Fremont, OH. The family will receive guests beginning at 10:00A.M. at the church. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or Heartland Hospice.
