Ruth Watkins Baechle passed away on Easter Sunday; she was 93 and her health had been declining for some time.



Visitation will be held on April, 29th, Missouri United Methodist Church, 204 S 9th Street, Columbia, MO from 12:00-2:00pm. Memorial service will follow at 2:00pm at the church. Inurnment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.



Ruth was born in Columbia, in May, 1923, one of three daughters of Ralph and Lois Watkins. She attended Stephens College and the University of Missouri and graduated with a degree in journalism. After working as a copy editor for the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, she married Raymond Charles Baechle and raised four sons.



Later in life, she took up her vocation as a minister. She received both a Master in Divinity and a Master of Sacred Theology from Eden Seminary in Webster Groves, Missouri, eventually being ordained in the United Church of Christ in 1978. After working for the city of Webster Groves as a director of an older adults center, she became a shared pastor for two small churches in Illinois, the First Presbyterian Church of Olney and the Saron United Church of Christ in Dundas.



After retiring in 1992, Ruth returned to Columbia, and to her parents’ house. She lived there quietly until forced by ill-health to take up residence in a nursing home.



She is survived by her sister Clara Watkins Mosenfelder, her four sons Ralph, Dan, Mark, and Nick Baechle, and her daughter-in-law Ursula Appelt.
